Job Summary: As an Ophthalmologist, you will be responsible for providing clinical management services for complex or specific eye conditions. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including Optometrists, Medical Officers, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
• Examine patients’ eye health, identify irregularities or injuries, and develop comprehensive treatment plans
• Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and make necessary adjustments
• Consult with or refer patients to specialists when required
• Provide health teaching and counselling to eye patients, empowering them to make informed choices about the health of their eyes
• Maintain accurate and timely eye patient records
• Participate in quality improvement and assurance activities
• Provide eye patients education and consultative direction
• Maintain professionalism and adhere to eye patient confidentiality
• Participate in relevant committees, such as Waste Management and Internal Control
• Coach and supervise staff, providing yearly performance assessments
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
• Doctor of Medicine degree (MBCHB) with Registration and License to Practice
• Member of Medical and Dental Council of Ghana or a recognised professional body
• Minimum of five (5) years post-specialisation experience
• Strong teamwork skills and exceptional communication abilities
• Critical thinking and organisational skills
• Attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure
• Extensive knowledge of current trends and developments in ophthalmology
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, officials, and the public
